Challenge

A confidential data center operator had a clear corporate
standard for SCADA and five legacy sites that didn’t follow
it. Spread across Brazil, Sweden, Great Britain, and Hong Kong, each facility ran substantially different technology across electrical, chilled water, HVAC, leak detection, and fire protection. Device inventories were incomplete, and every site had its own quirks. Treating each site as its own project would just create five new versions of the same problem. What the operator needed was a single architecture that could absorb every site’s history.

Solution

SkyIO approached the program with a vision for the same plan at every site.

  • Extensive reviews of each legacy system to build the
    complete device inventory the corporate records
    were missing
  • New templates, extending the standards instead of
    breaking them
  • Dedicated resources per site flexed their schedules
    for 50% overlap with local teams during testing,
    across every time zone.

Success

Today, three sites run fully on the corporate standard SCADA architecture, with two more partially converted — one pending a controls upgrade, the other awaiting a landlord BMS connection. Complete device inventories now exist for every facility, and the new templates mean the next legacy site won’t start from scratch.
